Job Description:
About the role:
We are looking for an experienced marine engineering professional to join us as an Assistant Vessel Manager. This role follows a hybrid working pattern of four days per week in the office and one day working remotely. There is flexibility around the remote-working day, subject to operational needs and reasonable commuting arrangements. This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong technical background in marine engineering, gas-burning engines and vessel maintenance who is ready to develop their career ashore.
You will initially focus on supporting the planning and delivery of maintenance activity across our vessels, while building the knowledge and experience required to progress towards a Vessel Manager position. You will work closely with a small team of seagoing maintenance engineers, helping to ensure that maintenance activity is effectively planned, appropriately resourced and delivered safely and reliably. Direct people management responsibilities will be limited initially, with accountability increasing as you develop within the role.
This role offers broad exposure to vessel operations, fleet management and future dry-docking activity, providing a structured development pathway for someone who is motivated to become a fully capable Vessel Manager.
What you will do:
In the initial stage of the role, you will:
Support and coordinate a team of four seagoing maintenance engineers.
Plan and schedule vessel maintenance activities.
Ensure maintenance work is appropriately resourced.
Support the effective delivery of maintenance activity across the vessels.
Assist with relevant logistics coordination.
Develop a detailed understanding of vessel operations, maintenance planning and frontline shipboard challenges.
Accompany maintenance engineers onboard vessels to gain first-hand operational knowledge and build effective working relationships with vessel crews. As your experience and capability develop, you will:
Gain exposure to the wider responsibilities of vessel management.
Build the competency required to provide cover during Vessel Manager absences.
Take on greater accountability for vessel operations and fleet management activity.
Support ship visits and vessel ride-alongs.
Work towards progression into a future Vessel Manager position as part of our longer-term succession planning.
