Senior Civil Design Engineer; Roads & Stormwater

Our client, a dynamic engineering consultancy focused on urban development and infrastructure, is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Design Engineer to contribute to their growing team in Nelspruit . This role involves leading the design and development of road networks, stormwater management systems, and associated civil infrastructure for a range of public and private sector projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in geometric road design, hydrology, and hydraulics, coupled with excellent project management and client liaison skills.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality designs that meet stringent standards while considering the unique environmental and developmental context of the Mpumalanga region. This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement, balancing essential in-office collaboration with remote work efficiency.

• Lead the design of geometric road alignments, intersections, and related infrastructure.
• Develop detailed designs for stormwater drainage systems, including culverts, channels, and detention ponds.
• Perform hydrological and hydraulic analyses using industry-standard software.
• Prepare comprehensive design reports, drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant South African road design manuals, SANS standards, and municipal requirements.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables, coordinating with other disciplines and stakeholders.
• Conduct site visits for investigations, design verification, and construction support.
• Mentor and guide junior engineering staff on technical aspects of road and stormwater design.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure project objectives are met.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is required.
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in civil design, specifically focusing on roads and stormwater infrastructure.
• Proficiency in relevant design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and hydrological/hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, EPANET).
• Strong understanding of geometric design principles and stormwater management best practices.
• Demonstrated experience in managing design projects and leading small teams.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment, demonstrating self-discipline and strong time management.
• Experience with municipal infrastructure projects within the Mpumalanga region is advantageous.
