Senior Electrical Engineer - Mining Automation

Our client, a leading mining group, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join their innovative team in Pretoria, Gauteng

You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of sophisticated electrical systems and automation solutions across various mining operations. This role requires a deep understanding of industrial electrical engineering principles, including power distribution, control systems, and SCADA. • Design, specify, and oversee the installation of electrical power distribution systems for mining equipment and facilities.
• Develop, program, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Implement and maintain Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for remote monitoring and control.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical codes, safety standards (e.g., OHS Act), and industry best practices.
• Conduct electrical system studies, including load flow, short circuit analysis, and arc flash studies.
• Manage electrical maintenance programs, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance of electrical assets.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior electrical engineers and technicians.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and operations personnel, to integrate electrical systems.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial electrical engineering, with a strong focus on mining or heavy industry.
• Proven experience with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell) and SCADA systems.
• Solid understanding of electrical safety principles and relevant regulations.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP).
• Experience with variable speed drives (VSDs) and motor control centers (MCCs).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or eligible for registration is highly preferred.
