System Safety Technical Analyst, Human Spaceflight (Remote)Commercial Space Full Time Centennial, CO, US
Salary Range: $ To $ Annually
ARES Corporation seeks a technically strong System Safety Technical Analyst to join our team supporting Blue Origin’s Lunar program. This role emphasizes deep technical evaluation of vehicle subsystems—understanding components, subsystems, and systems; requirements; design; build; integration; test and operation.
Tasks include Hazard Report development, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), failure tolerance assessments and exemptions, and related NASA/commercial space safety tasking. Candidate will have demonstrated experience working with complex aerospace vehicle systems and the ability to quickly understand how hardware, software, and interfaces function, fail, and are verified.
Work location: Well-qualified remote candidates will be considered. Candidates local to the Denver metro area (including Blue Origin’s South Denver / Highlands Ranch presence) willing to work a hybrid schedule are preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Subsystem and System Technical Evaluation
:
Independently evaluate assigned vehicle subsystems (examples include propulsion, cryogenic fluid management, power, avionics, guidance/navigation/control, structures, thermal, communications, or mechanisms) by reviewing requirements, design documentation, schematics, interface control documents, analyses, and test plans. Understand component-level behavior, failure modes, interfaces, and how the subsystem integrates into the overall vehicle. - Requirements, Design, and Verification Review
:
Assess requirements traceability, design implementation, and verification evidence (analysis, test, inspection, demonstration). Identify technical gaps, interface issues, or verification shortfalls relevant to safety and performance. - Hazard Analysis and Safety Assessment Support
:
Apply technical understanding to support development of hazard analyses, hazard reports, and related safety products. Identify potential hazards, causal factors, controls, and mitigations based on design and operational knowledge. Contribute to Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), FMECA, and assessments of failure tolerance (including evaluation of failure tolerance exemptions or single-point failure rationales) consistent with NASA human-rating and system safety guidelines. - Customer and Cross-Discipline Engagement
:
Work closely with Blue Origin subsystem engineers, systems engineers, and integration teams. Extract technical information, ask clarifying questions, and present findings clearly in reviews. Contribute to safety and mission assurance activities for lunar lander systems in accordance with applicable NASA technical standards and guidelines. - Documentation and Continuous Learning
:
Produce clear technical assessments and supporting documentation. Rapidly learn and apply system safety processes and standards (hazard report structure, FTA/FMECA methods, verification of controls, failure tolerance criteria, etc.) under guidance from experienced team members.
Desired
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience evaluating or working with aerospace vehicle systems or subsystems (launch vehicles, spacecraft, or high-reliability aerospace hardware/software). Ability to understand requirements, design, interfaces, integration, and test without starting from basic aerospace fundamentals.
- Strong technical aptitude: ability to review schematics, requirements documents, interface definitions, analyses, and test data and quickly grasp how a system or subsystem…
