Chemical Process Control Engineer

Our client, a forward-thinking chemical manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced Chemical Process Control Engineer to join their remote-first team. This position is fully remote, offering you the flexibility to work from anywhere while contributing to the optimization and automation of our client's sophisticated chemical processes. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced control systems to ensure optimal performance, safety, and efficiency.

The role involves working with Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and sophisticated modeling techniques. We are looking for a highly analytical individual with a deep understanding of control theory, process dynamics, and automation technologies within the chemical industry. Your expertise will be crucial in driving operational excellence and innovation through cutting-edge control strategies, all within a collaborative virtual environment.

• Design, implement, and commission advanced process control strategies for chemical plants.
• Develop and maintain control system software, including DCS and PLC programming.
• Perform process modeling and simulation to optimize control loop performance.
• Analyze process data to identify opportunities for improved control and automation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to control systems and instrumentation.
• Develop and execute test plans for new control system implementations and upgrades.
• Ensure control systems comply with safety standards and operational requirements.
• Collaborate with process engineers and operations teams to understand control needs and implement solutions.
• Develop and deliver training on control system operation and maintenance.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in process automation and control.

• BEng/BSc or MEng/MSc in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process control engineering, preferably in the chemical or petrochemical industry.
• Proven experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
• Strong understanding of control theory, PID control, and advanced control techniques (e.g., MPC).
• Proficiency in process simulation and modeling software.
• Experience with industrial instrumentation and sensor technologies.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, essential for a remote team.
• Ability to work independently and manage project timelines effectively.
• Must be legally authorized to work remotely within South Africa.
