Process Safety Engineer Plant

Our client, a leading entity in the downstream Oil & Gas sector, is seeking a diligent and proactive Process Safety Engineer to join their facility operations team near Richards Bay, Kwa Zulu-Natal. This critical role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of process safety are maintained throughout the plant, preventing incidents and protecting personnel, assets, and the environment. The position is designated as fully remote, requiring you to manage safety protocols and compliance from your home office, with occasional site visits as necessary.

You will be instrumental in conducting risk assessments, developing safety procedures, and driving a strong safety culture.

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
• Develop and implement robust process safety management (PSM) systems.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs to plant personnel.
• Oversee the management of change (MOC) process for process safety implications.
• Perform safety audits and inspections of plant facilities and operations.
• Contribute to the design and modification of processes to enhance inherent safety.
• Maintain process safety documentation and records.

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety engineering within the Oil & Gas or chemical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of process safety principles and standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, CCPS guidelines).
• Proven experience in conducting various types of PHAs.
• Strong understanding of safety instrumented systems (SIS) and risk reduction measures.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote setting.
• Willingness to travel to the Richards Bay site periodically for assessments and meetings.
• Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CFPS) are highly desirable.
