About

The Role

The Senior Electrical Engineer – Project will assist in the design, construction, and commissioning of a new state-of-the-art facility. In this role, you will lead the electrical engineering scope across all phases of the construction project from design review and procurement support through site installation, testing, and system startup. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in industrial power systems, process controls, deep knowledge of national electrical and building codes, and proven experience managing complex, large-scale construction projects.

Problems faced are difficult and complex requiring advanced problem-solving skills. Travel will be required, as necessary, to visit equipment suppliers and to the site to assist with installation, commissioning, and start-up of infrastructure and process equipment.

What You’ll Accomplish
  • Review, evaluate, and approve electrical engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and specifications for medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, control systems, and grounding.
  • Direct and oversee electrical contractors on-site to ensure installation aligns with engineering designs, quality standards, project schedules, and safety protocols.
  • Ensure full compliance with all local, national, and international electrical codes (e.g., NEC/NFPA 70), building codes, OSHA standards, and plant safety requirements (e.g., NFPA 70E).
  • Manage electrical scopes using project tools including Procore for submittals, RFIs, design revisions, and field updates.
  • Develop and execute field inspection protocols, testing programs, and commissioning procedures for main electrical equipment (transformers, switch gear, VFDs, MCCs, and backup power systems).
  • Serve as the primary electrical engineering liaison between internal capital project managers, external EPC partners, equipment vendors, and municipal inspectors.
  • Design and layout plant electrical infrastructure, including utility interconnect coordination, medium-voltage substations, power factor correction, harmonic mitigation, grounding grids, and emergency generator/UPS backup systems.
  • Design and develop plant process control scheme, including PLC/PAC architectures, SCADA/HMI integration, coordinated multi-drive web systems, tension controls, and industrial field networks (Ether Net/IP, PROFINET).
  • Create and execute the plant commissioning plan, leading Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at vendor facilities, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), cold I/O dry runs, and hot continuous operational trials.
  • Train operators and supervision on the proper operation of equipment and processes.
  • Develop maintenance documentation and train the newly hired maintenance team, including as-built drawing handovers, equipment maintenance manuals, critical spare parts lists, and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Support development and implement action plans for continuous improvements and cost savings.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas.
  • Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
