• Design and specify energy storage systems (ESS) for various applications, including grid-scale, commercial, and industrial projects.
• Evaluate and select appropriate battery technologies, inverters, and control systems based on project requirements.
• Develop technical specifications, performance models, and integration strategies for ESS deployments.
• Conduct feasibility studies and techno-economic analyses for energy storage projects.
• Collaborate with project management teams to ensure timely and cost-effective execution of ESS installations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to ESS performance, operation, and maintenance.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in battery technology, power electronics, and energy management systems.
• Develop and implement control strategies for optimal ESS operation, including grid services participation.
• Ensure all ESS projects comply with relevant safety standards, codes, and regulations.
• Provide technical training and support to internal teams and external stakeholders.

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience in the design, engineering, or deployment of energy storage systems, with a focus on battery technologies.
• Deep understanding of battery chemistries (e.g., Li-ion, flow batteries), power electronics, and grid interconnection standards.
• Proficiency in modeling and simulation tools for energy storage systems.
• Experience with energy management systems (EMS) and distributed energy resource (DER) management.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage projects effectively in a fully remote environment.
• Familiarity with South African energy market regulations and standards is a plus.
