Junior Civil Engineer - Roads and Stormwater

Our client, a growing engineering consultancy dedicated to improving urban environments, is seeking a motivated Junior Civil Engineer with a focus on Roads and Stormwater to join their team in Benoni, Gauteng . This is an excellent entry-level position for a recent graduate or an engineer with 1-3 years of experience looking to build a solid foundation in municipal infrastructure design.

You will work under the guidance of senior engineers, assisting in the planning, design, and documentation of road networks, intersections, and stormwater management systems. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, possess strong analytical skills, and have a keen eye for detail. This hybrid role offers a balanced approach to work, combining valuable in-office mentorship and collaboration with some flexibility for remote work.

• Assist senior engineers in the design of roads, intersections, and associated civil infrastructure.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings and plans using CAD software under supervision.
• Conduct calculations for road geometry, drainage systems, and earthworks.
• Support the development of stormwater management plans and designs.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and tender documents.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical understanding of construction.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and team members to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Learn and apply relevant engineering standards, codes, and best practices.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and records.

• Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Civil Engineering.
• 1-3 years of relevant internship or professional experience in civil infrastructure, preferably roads and stormwater.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and a good understanding of Civil 3D or similar civil design software.
• Basic knowledge of road design principles and stormwater hydraulics.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
