Mechanical Engineer, Building Services Engineer, Energy Engineer
Our client, a premier consulting engineering firm specializing in sustainable building design, is looking for a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join their remote team. This role focuses on the design and specification of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems, plumbing, and other mechanical building services for a variety of commercial, institutional, and residential projects. You will be responsible for developing innovative, energy-efficient, and cost-effective mechanical solutions that meet client requirements and regulatory standards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, psychrometrics, and building codes, coupled with extensive experience in using industry-standard design and simulation software. This fully remote position allows you to contribute to impactful projects across various regions while maintaining a flexible work-life balance.
- Design and engineer HVAC systems, including air distribution, heating, cooling, and ventilation, for various building types.
- Specify mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, air handling units, and pumps.
- Develop detailed drawings and specifications for mechanical systems using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP).
- Perform energy modeling and calculations to optimize system performance and ensure compliance with energy codes.
- Collaborate remotely with architects, electrical engineers, and other design professionals.
- Conduct site visits and assessments as required (may involve occasional travel).
- Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and cost estimates for mechanical systems.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical building services design, with a strong focus on HVAC systems.
- Proficiency in MEP design software such as Revit MEP and AutoCAD MEP.
- Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, psychrometrics, and building physics.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes (e.g., SANS, ASHRAE) and energy efficiency standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
- Experience with energy modeling software (e.g., eQUEST, Energy Plus) is highly desirable.
- Professional Engineer (PrEng) registration is a plus.
- Competitive remote salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- Flexible working hours and the ability to work from home.
- Opportunities for professional growth and continuous learning.
- Involvement in diverse and sustainable building projects.
- Collaborative and supportive remote team environment.
- Reimbursement for home office setup and internet costs.
