Electrical Design Engineer - Automation & Control

Our client, a leader in providing innovative automation solutions for the wine industry, is looking for a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. This role focuses on the design and development of electrical control systems for automated machinery and processes. You will be responsible for creating detailed electrical schematics, selecting components, and ensuring designs meet stringent performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.

The position involves a hybrid work model, allowing for a balance of on-site collaboration at our Stellenbosch facility and remote work flexibility. You will work closely with mechanical engineers and software developers to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into our clients' production lines. • Design and develop electrical schematics and control panel layouts for automated machinery using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
• Select appropriate electrical components, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, motor drives, and safety devices.
• Ensure electrical designs comply with relevant SANS, IEC, and other international safety standards.
• Collaborate with mechanical and software engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
• Prepare technical documentation, including Bill of Materials (BOM), wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions.
• Assist in the testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical control systems.
• Provide technical support to production and field service teams.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in industrial automation and control systems.
• Contribute to the development of electrical design standards and best practices.
• Manage electrical design aspects of projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
• Conduct site visits for system assessments and client consultations as required.

• B.Eng or
  
  B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical design, with a focus on industrial automation and control systems.
• Proficiency in using electrical CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs (Siemens, Allen-Bradley), HMIs, VFDs, and industrial communication protocols.
• Understanding of electrical safety standards and best practices.
• Experience with control panel design and component selection.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Familiarity with the food and beverage or wine industry automation is a plus.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites.
