Industrial Engineer - Plant Layout and Flow Optimization

Our client, a progressive manufacturing entity, is seeking a talented Industrial Engineer specializing in Plant Layout and Flow Optimization. This role is designed to be fully remote, allowing you to contribute your expertise to designing efficient facility layouts and optimizing material flow from anywhere. You will be responsible for analyzing existing plant layouts, identifying bottlenecks, and developing innovative designs for new facilities or modifications to existing ones.

This includes optimizing material handling, workstation design, and overall workflow to maximize productivity, minimize costs, and ensure safety. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of facility design principles, material flow analysis, simulation tools, and lean manufacturing concepts. We are looking for a creative problem-solver who can translate operational needs into efficient physical and virtual layouts. This position demands excellent visualization skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with on-site teams remotely.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the physical infrastructure that drives operational success.

• Analyze existing plant layouts and material flow to identify inefficiencies, safety hazards, and areas for improvement.
• Design optimal facility layouts for new plants or modifications to existing ones, considering workflow, equipment placement, and space utilization.
• Develop and implement material flow strategies to minimize travel distances and optimize throughput.
• Utilize CAD software to create and update layout drawings and process flow diagrams.
• Employ simulation modeling tools (e.g., Arena, Any Logic) to test and validate layout designs and flow improvements.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and safety teams to gather requirements and ensure designs meet all needs.
• Recommend improvements to workstation design and ergonomics.
• Develop business cases and present layout proposals to management, highlighting benefits and ROI.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in facility design.
• Contribute to the selection and integration of material handling equipment.

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial engineering, with a specialization in plant layout, facility design, and material flow.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) for creating and modifying layouts.
• Experience with process simulation and modeling software (e.g., Arena, Flex Sim, Any Logic).
• Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and their application to facility design.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and visualization skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage projects effectively in a remote setting.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact with remote and on-site teams.
• Knowledge of material handling systems and equipment.
• Experience with ergonomic assessments and workstation design is a plus.
