Electrical Design Engineer - Commercial Buildings

Our client, What Jobs Direct, is seeking a talented Electrical Design Engineer to contribute to their projects in Benoni, Gauteng
. This hybrid role involves both remote work for design tasks and on-site responsibilities for client consultations, site surveys, and project coordination. You will be responsible for the electrical design of power, lighting, and low-voltage systems for a variety of commercial building projects. This includes ensuring designs are compliant with relevant building codes, energy efficiency standards, and client requirements. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles applied to building services.

You will work collaboratively with architects, mechanical engineers, and other consultants to deliver integrated and efficient building solutions. The Benoni location provides exposure to diverse urban development projects within the Gauteng province. • Design electrical systems for commercial buildings, including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, and fire alarm systems.
• Prepare detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications using CAD software.
• Perform load calculations, lighting level analysis, and other electrical design calculations.
• Ensure designs comply with national electrical codes (e.g., SANS 10142), local regulations, and energy efficiency standards.
• Coordinate electrical designs with architectural and mechanical building systems.
• Conduct site visits for surveys, inspections, and to monitor construction progress.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
• Assist in the procurement process and review vendor submittals.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues that arise during the design and construction phases.
• Stay updated on building codes, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical building services.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical design for building services, preferably in the commercial sector.
• Proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP).
• Solid understanding of power distribution, lighting design principles, and low-voltage systems.
• Knowledge of relevant building codes and electrical standards.
• Experience with energy-efficient design practices is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
