Principal Geotechnical Engineer

Our client, a highly respected firm in the field of geotechnical and civil engineering, is seeking an accomplished Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Mahikeng, North West . This leadership role involves providing expert geotechnical advice, managing complex projects, and overseeing site investigations for a diverse range of developments. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability and safety of ground conditions for major infrastructure and building projects.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in soil mechanics, foundation design, and site characterization, coupled with strong leadership and project management skills. • Lead and manage comprehensive geotechnical investigation projects, from planning and fieldwork supervision to data analysis and reporting.
• Provide expert geotechnical interpretations and recommendations for foundation design, slope stability, earthworks, and ground improvement.
• Develop and review detailed geotechnical reports, proposals, and design documentation for clients and regulatory authorities.
• Mentor and supervise a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians, fostering technical growth and quality assurance.
• Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, project managers, and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
• Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for complex geotechnical challenges.
• Ensure all geotechnical activities comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
• Contribute to business development, client relationship management, and proposal preparation.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering principles, software, and technologies.
• Undertake site visits and fieldwork as required, often in challenging conditions within the North West province.

• A Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related Civil Engineering discipline.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) is essential.
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion in a senior or principal capacity.
• Demonstrated expertise in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, slope stability analysis, and site investigation techniques.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as Geo Studio Suite (SLOPE/W, SEEP/W), PLAXIS, or similar analysis tools.
• Experience in managing large-scale geotechnical projects, including budget and schedule control.
• Strong report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and team management abilities.
