Remote-First Industrial Cleaning & Biohazard Specialist

Our client, a global leader in chemical distribution and logistics, is seeking a highly specialized Remote Hazardous Materials Logistics Specialist. This critical remote-first role is responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient transportation of hazardous materials across various jurisdictions. You will manage compliance documentation, coordinate with carriers, and develop safety protocols to mitigate risks associated with handling dangerous goods. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in national and international regulations governing the transport of hazardous materials, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex logistical challenges from a remote location.

This role requires meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety and compliance, supporting operations that may involve the Richards Bay region but are managed globally and remotely.

• Ensure full compliance with all relevant national and international regulations (e.g., ADR, IMDG, IATA, Hazmat) for the transport of hazardous materials.
• Coordinate with internal teams, carriers, and regulatory agencies to manage shipments of hazardous goods.
• Develop, review, and update hazardous materials transportation procedures and policies.
• Manage all necessary documentation, including shipping papers, manifests, and permits.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for the transportation of specific hazardous materials.
• Provide training and guidance to logistics staff and external partners on hazmat regulations and best practices.
• Investigate and report on any incidents or accidents involving hazardous materials shipments.
• Monitor industry changes and regulatory updates, ensuring the company remains compliant.
• Optimize transport routes and modes for hazardous materials to balance safety, cost, and delivery timelines.
• Liaise with emergency response providers and develop emergency response plans.

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of direct experience in hazardous materials (hazmat) logistics and transportation compliance.
• In-depth knowledge of South African and international regulations pertaining to the transport of dangerous goods.
• Relevant certifications in hazmat transport (e.g., DGSA).
• Proven ability to manage complex logistics operations in a remote environment.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk management skills.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
• Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety.
• Proficiency in logistics software and MS Office Suite.
• Experience with supply chain management in the chemical or related industries is highly preferred.
