Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Specialist

Our client, a leading engineering consultancy firm specializing in building services, is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in HVAC systems for their Polokwane office. This role operates on a hybrid model, blending essential on-site project engagement with strategic office-based design and coordination. You will be responsible for the design, specification, and project management of complex HVAC systems for a variety of commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.

• Design and engineer HVAC systems, including air conditioning, ventilation, and heating, for diverse building types.
• Prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
• Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, verify installations, and provide technical support.
• Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and project managers to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Perform load calculations, airflow analysis, and energy efficiency assessments.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant SANS standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables for mechanical services.
• Review shop drawings and submittals from contractors.
• Troubleshoot and resolve HVAC system issues during the construction and commissioning phases.
• Stay updated on the latest HVAC technologies and best practices.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (P.Eng Tech) registration with ECSA is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in HVAC design and project engineering.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and HVAC load calculation software (e.g., HAP, Trace 700).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles.
• Familiarity with South African building regulations and SANS standards related to HVAC.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage a hybrid work schedule, effectively balancing site and office responsibilities.
• Experience in managing projects from concept through to completion.
• Strong report writing and client liaison skills.
