Sales Engineer, Systems Engineer
A global designer and manufacturer of custom battery-pack and power systems is scaling its presence in data-center power, and is looking for a customer-facing Applications Engineer to be the technical face of its rack-based battery backup (BBU) and distributed UPS solutions to the market.
This is a role for an engineer who likes being in front of customers. You'll be the person power architects and engineering teams at the world's largest compute and infrastructure companies call when they need a backup-power solution designed around their rack, their load profile and their roadmap. You'll translate what the customer needs into what the business builds — and translate what the business can do into language their decision-makers can act on.
Success here is measured in design wins secured and customer relationships deepened, not drawings released.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact across the sales cycle: leading solution discussions, running design reviews and defending the technical approach in front of customer engineering teams
- Build credible, deep relationships with power architects and system designers at leading hyperscale, OEM and infrastructure accounts
- Capture and interpret the voice of the customer, then translate it into clear direction for the internal engineering and product teams
- Shape rack-level BBU and distributed UPS solutions around each customer's load, form‑factor, redundancy and ride‑through requirements: from first concept through to design win
- Support bid and proposal activity with the technical content and credibility needed to win with sophisticated engineering buyers
- Travel nationally to customer sites to stay close to the market's evolving needs
- A customer‑facing engineer's instinct: real comfort in front of customers, with the communication skill to make complex power solutions clear to both engineers and decision‑makers
- A power engineering background: UPS, in‑rack single‑phase UPS, DC‑to‑DC power conversion or related power‑electronics domains
- Working knowledge of battery systems: BMS, fuel‑gauging and cell chemistry
- System‑level thinking: the ability to see the whole solution and integrate it into a customer's rack and power architecture
- Familiarity with hyperscale, colocation, enterprise or server/storage power environments and the role of short‑duration backup within them
- Willingness to travel and operate as a national, remote‑based member of the team
Our client is a global designer and manufacturer of custom battery-pack and power systems, with manufacturing operations across North America, Mexico, Brazil and Asia and significant annual revenue. The business is expanding fast in data‑center power - specifically the rack-based BBU and distributed UPS architectures that deliver critical seconds‑to‑minutes of ride‑through for the compute infrastructure behind modern AI and cloud.
If you want to own the technical relationship with the customers who define this market, we'd like to hear from you.
