Job Summary and DescriptionJob Summary
This position within EPRI's Transmission Operations and Planning R&D group focused on measurement-based grid monitoring, analytics, control, modeling, and simulation. The successful candidate will contribute to research and development projects that support the reliable operation and planning of modern power systems with increasing integration of inverter-based resources and advanced monitoring technologies.
Working with minimal direction and supervision, the candidate will perform complex technical analyses, formulate research approaches, conduct modeling and simulation studies, develop analytical methods and software tools, prepare technical publications and reports, support proposal development activities, and present technical results to internal and external audiences. The candidate will support technical research leads and engage in supervised interactions with EPRI members, industry stakeholders, and research partners.
This role requires creativity, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to apply advanced technical expertise to solve challenging power system problems.
- Develop advanced methods, algorithms, and software tools for synchrophasor-based applications supporting real-time transmission system operations, including oscillation monitoring and control, inertia estimation, situational awareness, and wide-area monitoring applications.
- Conduct modeling, simulation, and analysis of large-scale power systems with high penetrations of inverter-based resources and emerging load technologies.
- Perform power system dynamic studies using electromechanical simulation tools such as PSS®E and electromagnetic transients simulation tools such as PSCAD.
- Analyze field-recorded measurement data and support event, disturbance, and post-contingency investigations using advanced analytical techniques.
- Conduct technical literature reviews and assess state-of-the-art and emerging technologies related to wide-area monitoring, protection, and control systems.
- Support the development, configuration, and execution of real-time simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing environments.
- Develop software applications and automation tools to support power system analytics, modeling, and research activities.
- Prepare technical reports, journal papers, conference papers, presentations, and research deliverables for EPRI members and stakeholders.
- Support technical research leads in assessing member needs, developing technical approaches, preparing proposals, and planning future research activities.
- Present technical work at industry meetings, conferences, technical workshops, and EPRI events.
- Collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary research teams while maintaining the ability to execute technical work independently.
- Manage multiple project assignments and technical deadlines while maintaining high-quality deliverables.
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field with a concentration in power systems preferred.
- Master's degree with relevant industry and research experience…
