Senior Structural Engineer - Commercial and Industrial Buildings

Our client, a prominent structural engineering firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer for a fully remote position, servicing projects primarily in Randburg, Gauteng
, and surrounding areas. This role demands a high level of technical expertise in the design of structural systems for a variety of commercial, industrial, and potentially residential buildings. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading design efforts, ensuring structural integrity, compliance with building codes, and efficient use of materials. • Lead the structural design process for new building projects and renovations, from concept to detailed design.
• Perform complex structural analysis using advanced engineering software for steel, concrete, and other materials.
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, and calculation reports.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant South African National Standards (SANS), National Building Regulations (N ), and other applicable codes.
• Collaborate effectively with architects, other engineering disciplines, and clients remotely.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and draughtspersons.
• Review shop drawings and respond to site queries during the construction phase (remotely where possible, with potential site visits if required).
• Conduct structural assessments of existing buildings and propose rehabilitation strategies.
• Manage project deliverables and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
• Stay current with advancements in structural engineering materials, software, and design methodologies.

• Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural specialization.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is essential.
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in structural engineering design for buildings.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP
  2000, SAFE, Revit Structure).
• Strong knowledge of steel, concrete, timber, and masonry design principles.
• Excellent understanding of building codes and construction practices in South Africa

• Exceptional problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage workload effectively in a remote setting.
• Reliable internet connectivity and a conducive home office environment.
