Job Title:

Senior Structural Health Monitoring Specialist

Location: United Arab Emirates (Remote)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: 100% Remote - Work From Home

Level: Senior

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Health Monitoring Specialist to provide technical expertise in assessing the condition, performance, and long-term integrity of buildings, bridges, industrial facilities, transportation infrastructure, and other critical structures. The successful candidate will oversee structural monitoring strategies, evaluate sensor data, interpret structural performance indicators, and develop recommendations for early detection of deterioration, damage, and potential structural risks.

This fully remote position requires strong knowledge of structural engineering, structural dynamics, sensor technologies, data acquisition systems, condition assessment, and predictive monitoring methodologies. The specialist will collaborate remotely with structural engineers, asset managers, infrastructure operators, inspection teams, and engineering consultants to support informed maintenance and asset management decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and review structural health monitoring (SHM) strategies for buildings, bridges, towers, industrial structures, and infrastructure assets.
  • Evaluate monitoring requirements based on structural characteristics, operational conditions, environmental exposure, and potential failure mechanisms.
  • Review structural monitoring system designs, including sensor selection, placement, configuration, and measurement requirements.
  • Assess data generated by strain gauges, accelerometers, displacement sensors, inclinometers, load cells, temperature sensors, and other monitoring equipment.
  • Analyze structural response under static, dynamic, thermal, and operational loading conditions.
  • Evaluate vibration characteristics, natural frequencies, mode shapes, damping ratios, and changes in dynamic structural behavior.
  • Review time-history data, frequency-domain measurements, modal analysis results, and other structural performance indicators.
  • Interpret monitoring trends to identify abnormal behavior, potential deterioration, fatigue effects, and emerging structural anomalies.
  • Support the development of baseline structural performance profiles and threshold-based alert systems.
  • Evaluate sensor data quality, calibration records, measurement accuracy, signal noise, and data consistency.
  • Review automated data acquisition systems, remote monitoring platforms, telemetry solutions, and structural monitoring dashboards.
  • Apply statistical analysis, signal processing, and data-driven techniques to assess structural condition and performance.
  • Support the development of predictive monitoring models and early-warning methodologies for structural deterioration.
  • Review finite element analysis results and compare predicted structural behavior with actual monitoring measurements.
  • Assess the effects of environmental and operational variables on structural performance and monitoring interpretation.
  • Prepare structural health assessment reports, monitoring summaries, technical recommendations, and risk evaluation documents.
  • Investigate unusual sensor readings, data gaps, monitoring system failures, and unexplained structural response patterns.
  • Coordinate remotely with field inspection teams, instrumentation contractors, engineering consultants, and infrastructure operators.
  • Review structural inspection findings, non-destructive testing reports, and monitoring results to support integrated condition assessments.
  • Recommend monitoring improvements, sensor upgrades, data quality controls, and maintenance priorities.
  • Support the development of structural asset management plans and long-term monitoring programs.
  • Ensure technical assessments align with applicable engineering standards, project specifications, and organizational quality requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Master's degree or PhD in Structural Engineering, Structural Dynamics, Structural Monitoring, or a relevant field is an advantage.
  • Significant professional experience in structural health monitoring, structural assessment, structural engineering, or infrastructure asset management.
  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics, material behavior, load analysis, and structural response.
  • Knowledge of structural dynamics, modal analysis, vibration…
