Mechanical Project Engineer
Job Description
The Mechanical Project Engineer designs and packages pressure sensor solutions that meet demanding customer requirements, working closely with production and electrical engineering teams to bring new sensor products from concept to tested, customer-ready deliverables. This role owns technical design decisions, supports manufacturing and testing, and maintains clear communication with customers to ensure projects are delivered on time and to specification.
Responsibilities- Translate customer requirements for pressure sensors into practical mechanical designs and packaging solutions that meet performance, reliability, and application demands.
- Collaborate with the production team to develop, refine, and support the manufacturing process for new sensor designs.
- Work with production to plan and execute testing of sensors, verifying that they meet customer specifications and functional requirements.
- Partner with electrical engineers to ensure mechanical and electrical components integrate effectively and operate together as a cohesive system.
- Maintain ongoing communication with customers, providing technical updates, clarifying requirements, and managing expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage project timelines, track progress, and help coordinate activities to keep projects on schedule and within scope.
- Apply principles of dynamics and fluid mechanics to sensor design and packaging, ensuring optimal performance in relevant environments.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and integration issues, propose solutions, and implement design improvements as needed.
- Document designs, changes, and test results clearly to support production, quality, and future engineering work.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn how all component parts work together within complex sensor systems.
- 46 years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience, with up to approximately 1015 years of experience considered.
- Strong mechanical engineering background, including practical design and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with fluids and fluid mechanics in an engineering context.
- Knowledge of dynamics and its application to mechanical systems.
- Hands-on engineering approach, comfortable working directly with designs, components, and prototypes.
- Proficiency with Solid Works for mechanical design and modeling.
- Demonstrated project management capabilities, including organizing tasks and managing timelines.
- Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to understand and analyze how different mechanical and electrical component parts work together.
- Ability to maintain clear, professional communication with customers and internal teams.
- Problem-solving skills and a strong sense of ownership over technical outcomes.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in the aerospace industry is a major plus, particularly with components or systems used in demanding environments.
- Familiarity with pressure sensors or similar electromechanical devices is beneficial.
- Passion for working on mission-driven projects, including technologies used in space exploration such as lunar and Mars landers.
- Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies, tools, and customer applications.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production and electrical engineering.
This role is based onsite five days per week, with flexible hours and core working time between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., allowing some flexibility around start and end times. Occasional remote work is possible when necessary, depending on project needs. The environment is highly mission-focused, with engineering teams developing parts and sensors…
