Laguna Consulting Engineers is a structural engineering firm in Laguna Niguel, California. We design and review commercial rooftop and ground-mount solar systems, carports, and miscellaneous structures for solar installers, developers, and EPCs across the U.S.
We’re looking for a strong structural engineer to join our team full time, working remotely during U.S. Pacific business hours. Most of our work is commercial and industrial.
What you’ll do
- Run structural feasibility checks on existing commercial and industrial buildings for rooftop PV: steel, wood, concrete, and pre-engineered metal buildings
- Prepare permit-ready calculation packages, including gravity and lateral load paths and member and connection checks
- Design ballasted and attached rooftop systems, carports, and ground mounts
- Design, analyze, and detail pipe racks and canopy structures
- Design equipment anchorage and pads for inverters, transformers, and batteries
- Respond to plan check comments and carry revisions through to approval
- Support QC review of plan sets and calcs before they go out
All work is reviewed and sealed by our licensed engineer of record.
What we’re looking for
- Degree in civil or structural engineering
- 5 to 7 years of structural engineering experience, mostly on commercial projects in the U.S.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. codes: ASCE 7 (wind, seismic, snow), IBC and IEBC, AISC, NDS, ACI 318, and AISI. You should be able to apply them without being walked through them.
- Experience evaluating existing buildings for added loads
- Proficient in AutoCAD for structural detailing
- Experience with RISA or similar analysis software, Bluebeam, and Excel
- Clear written and spoken English. You’ll work directly with clients and plan reviewers.
- Extremely organized, with strong time management. You’ll handle several projects and deadlines at once.
- Clear, timely communication. You keep the team updated on progress and raise problems early.
- PE or SE license, and experience with commercial racking systems, are a plus
How we work
- Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Time
- This is a dedicated, full-time role. You can’t hold another job during these hours.
- All work is done on company accounts and tools
