Job Title:
Senior Chemical Reaction Calorimetry Specialist
Location: United Arab Emirates (Remote)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: 100% Remote — Work From Home
Level: Senior
About the RoleThe Senior Chemical Reaction Calorimetry Specialist provides advanced technical expertise in evaluating the thermal behaviour, heat generation, and energy characteristics of chemical reactions. The role focuses on reviewing calorimetric data, assessing reaction heat profiles, analysing thermal hazards, and supporting process development and scale-up assessments. Working entirely remotely, the specialist collaborates with chemical engineers, process safety professionals, research scientists, and laboratory teams to interpret reaction calorimetry results and provide technically sound recommendations for safer and more efficient chemical processes.
Key Responsibilities- Review and interpret reaction calorimetry data from laboratory, development, and process optimization studies.
- Evaluate heat generation, heat accumulation, reaction enthalpy, and thermal behaviour across different reaction stages.
- Analyse heat flow, temperature profiles, reaction rates, and thermal response under varying experimental conditions.
- Review data from reaction calorimeters, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), isothermal calorimetry, and other relevant thermal analysis techniques.
- Assess exothermic and endothermic reaction characteristics and identify potential thermal instability indicators.
- Evaluate reaction onset temperatures, heat release rates, adiabatic temperature rise, and related thermal risk parameters.
- Review calorimetric studies involving synthesis, polymerization, crystallization, neutralization, and other industrial chemical reactions.
- Assess the relationship between reaction kinetics, feed addition rates, mixing conditions, and heat removal requirements.
- Support the evaluation of cooling capacity, heat transfer performance, and process thermal management using available experimental and engineering data.
- Review thermal hazard assessment reports and identify areas requiring further investigation.
- Interpret scale-up data to identify potential differences in heat generation and heat removal between laboratory and production processes.
- Evaluate process deviations involving unexpected temperature increases, delayed heat release, or abnormal reaction behaviour.
- Coordinate remotely with laboratory personnel to clarify experimental conditions, data quality, and analytical inconsistencies.
- Review test protocols, instrument calibration records, measurement uncertainty assessments, and laboratory quality documentation.
- Prepare technical reports, calorimetric assessments, reaction heat profiles, and process safety recommendations.
- Support process development teams with evidence-based recommendations for reaction conditions and thermal control strategies.
- Maintain traceable records of calorimetry reviews, technical findings, assumptions, and risk assessment inputs.
- Contribute to improvements in calorimetry data interpretation, testing documentation, and technical review procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Process Engineering, or a related scientific discipline; a master's degree or PhD is an advantage.
- Significant experience in reaction calorimetry, thermal analysis, chemical process development, or process safety assessment.
- Strong understanding of chemical reaction thermodynamics, kinetics, heat transfer, and thermal behaviour.
- Experience interpreting heat flow, reaction enthalpy, adiabatic temperature rise, and heat accumulation data.
- Familiarity with reaction calorimetry systems and techniques such as RC1, DSC, isothermal calorimetry, and related thermal analysis methods.
