Senior Structural Health Monitoring Specialist
Senior Structural Health Monitoring Specialist
Location: United Arab Emirates (Remote)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: 100% Remote — Work From Home
Level: Senior
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Structural Health Monitoring Specialist to provide technical leadership in the assessment, monitoring, and performance evaluation of buildings, bridges, infrastructure assets, and other critical structures. The role focuses on interpreting structural monitoring data, evaluating structural behavior, identifying potential deterioration or anomalies, and supporting predictive maintenance and asset integrity programs. Working fully remotely, the specialist will collaborate with structural engineers, instrumentation teams, asset managers, and infrastructure stakeholders to deliver data-driven insights and recommendations that support structural safety, reliability, and long-term performance.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the technical review and interpretation of structural health monitoring (SHM) data from buildings, bridges, tunnels, industrial facilities, and other infrastructure assets.
- Develop monitoring strategies based on structural characteristics, asset criticality, environmental conditions, and operational requirements.
- Evaluate data from strain gauges, accelerometers, displacement sensors, tilt meters, inclinometers, load cells, and other monitoring instruments.
- Analyze structural responses to static and dynamic loads, vibration, temperature changes, wind, traffic, and environmental influences.
- Review sensor installation plans, instrumentation layouts, monitoring specifications, and data acquisition requirements.
- Assess structural behavior using time-series analysis, frequency-domain analysis, modal analysis, and other relevant engineering techniques.
- Identify unusual structural responses, potential damage indicators, sensor anomalies, and deviations from established baseline conditions.
- Support the development of threshold values, alarm criteria, and escalation procedures for monitored assets.
- Interpret vibration characteristics, natural frequencies, mode shapes, damping ratios, and changes in structural dynamic behavior.
- Review structural monitoring reports and evaluate trends that may indicate deterioration, fatigue, settlement, cracking, or other performance concerns.
- Apply statistical analysis, signal processing, and predictive analytics to identify changes in structural condition.
- Support the integration of SHM systems with digital twins, building management platforms, asset management systems, and predictive maintenance tools.
- Evaluate data quality, sensor reliability, calibration records, missing measurements, and monitoring system performance.
- Collaborate with field engineers and instrumentation specialists to troubleshoot sensor issues and resolve data acquisition problems remotely.
- Review structural assessment reports, inspection findings, engineering calculations, and monitoring documentation.
- Support condition assessment and risk-based maintenance planning using monitoring results and historical asset data.
- Provide technical input into structural performance assessments, serviceability evaluations, and asset lifecycle planning.
- Prepare technical recommendations, monitoring summaries, anomaly assessments, and management reports.
- Coordinate with structural engineering, geotechnical, civil engineering, maintenance, and asset management teams.
- Monitor developments in structural monitoring technologies, sensor systems, analytical methods, and relevant engineering standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of monitoring methodologies, data interpretation processes, and structural risk assessment practices.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in structural health monitoring, structural assessment, infrastructure engineering, or asset integrity management.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics, material behavior, load effects, and structural dynamics.
- Experience interpreting data from structural monitoring sensors and instrumentation systems.
- Knowledge of accelerometers, strain gauges, displacement transducers, inclinometers, tilt sensors, and related monitoring technologies.
- Familiarity with vibration analysis, modal identification, signal processing, and time-series data interpretation.
- Experience assessing structural behavior under environmental,…
