Remote Solar PV System Designer

You will be responsible for designing innovative and efficient solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential, commercial, and industrial clients.

• Design complete Solar PV systems, including electrical schematics, panel layouts, and performance simulations, using industry-standard software.
• Conduct site assessments (remotely, via provided data and tools) to determine optimal system design and equipment selection.
• Calculate system energy production, energy storage needs, and financial payback periods.
• Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including Bill of Materials (BOM), system specifications, and installation guidelines.
• Collaborate with sales teams, project managers, and installation partners to ensure design accuracy and feasibility.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in solar technology, PV components, and relevant regulations.
• Provide technical support and design review for ongoing projects.
• Ensure all designs comply with local electrical codes, utility interconnection requirements, and safety standards.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and manufacturers to stay updated on product availability and performance.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in designing Solar PV systems, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
• Proficiency in solar design software such as PVsyst, Aurora Solar, Helioscope, or similar.
• Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles, AC/DC power systems, and battery storage technology.
• Knowledge of South African electrical regulations and solar industry standards.
• Excellent spatial reasoning and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, essential for remote collaboration.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines.
• Experience with shading analysis and energy modeling is highly valued.
• Certification from relevant industry bodies is a plus.
