Senior Game Writer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and imaginative Senior Game Writer to craft compelling narratives and engaging dialogue for their upcoming video game titles in Port Elizabeth. You will be responsible for developing story arcs, creating memorable characters, and writing immersive in-game text that brings virtual worlds to life. This role requires a deep understanding of interactive storytelling and the ability to collaborate effectively with game designers, artists, and programmers.

You will contribute significantly to the emotional core and player experience of our games, working within a studio that values creativity and narrative depth in the Eastern Cape's growing tech sector.

• Develop and write original stories, plotlines, character backstories, and dialogue for video games.
• Collaborate with game designers to ensure narrative elements are integrated seamlessly with gameplay mechanics.
• Create and maintain a comprehensive style guide for in-game text, tone, and lore.
• Write various forms of in-game content, including quests, item descriptions, tutorials, and UI text.
• Revise and edit content based on feedback from the development team and play testers.
• Contribute to world-building and ensure narrative consistency across the game.

• Minimum of 5 years of professional writing experience, with at least 3 years focused on video game narrative.
• Proven ability to write engaging dialogue, compelling characters, and intricate plotlines.
• Strong understanding of game development processes and interactive storytelling principles.
• Experience with game design documents and narrative design tools.
• Excellent command of English grammar, style, and storytelling techniques.
• Portfolio showcasing relevant writing samples for games is required.
