Position: Project Director, Blizzard Video - Temp (SFD / Cinematics)
Job Description

A Project Director within Blizzard Video, which is part of the Story & Franchise Development (SFD) team, oversees the creative development and production of engaging video game trailers for Blizzard Entertainment game franchises, marketing teams, and other organizational departments. The project director is a leader, artist, strategist, and ambassador all in one. As a Project Director, you will work with a team of game capture artists, editors, motion graphics artists and producers to guide projects from discovery and strategic development, to production, post-production and delivery.

You will act as an internal and external liaison, engaging with project stakeholders to identify objectives and generate strategic creative solutions to achieve our client’s goals. The Project Director works under the direction of the Creative Director and works towards the completion of day-to-day projects while also supporting the success of the department. This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home.

The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements. This is a 6-month temporary position.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the creative lead on assigned projects, guiding cross-functional teams, including clients, producers, game capture artists, editors, and sounds designers, to deliver polished, high-impact content.
  • Direct teams of artists through all aspects of video game trailer production, including game capture, editorial, motion graphics, sound design and music.
  • Independently develop custom creative pitches for incoming project requests.
  • Lead pitch meetings with confidence and clarity, applying tactful but effective salesmanship to communicate the efficacy and merit of each conceptual approach.
  • Cultivate and guide creative partnerships with external agencies, vendors, and outsource teams to ensure alignment with project vision and quality standards.
  • Partner seamlessly with editorial, motion graphics, and game capture teams to craft visually compelling content that draws on the unique strengths and evolving techniques of each discipline.
  • Foster transparent communication throughout the production process, ensuring creative execution stays true to the pitched vision while remaining responsive and adaptive to feedback and change.
  • Embodily a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality, guiding projects not just from above but through active, collaborative engagement with your team and when the work calls for it.
Minimum Requirements
  • Experience 5+ years of professional experience as a director, creative director, associate creative director or creative manager at a game company, advertising agency, or branded content production company.
  • Experience managing a range of creative positions in a content creation pipeline, with an emphasis on game capture artists, editors, motion graphics artists, production designers, and art directors.
  • 12+ years of experience in design, film, media, communication or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in design, film, media, communications, entertainment, or related field.
  • Expert-level fluency in creative software, including Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office, with the technical agility to adapt across tools and platforms.
  • Impressive portfolio featuring high-quality, high-impact strategically informed game trailers for a variety of well-known IP and diverse audiences.
