A private equity-backed construction firm is seeking a Controller to join its growing team. This role will play a key part in the month-end close process, financial reporting and maintaining the integrity of the company’s general ledger.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to help shape financial processes as the company scales across the Southeastern United States.

Position Overview

This is a hybrid role based in Columbia, South Carolina, offering a flexible schedule with a mix of in-office collaboration and remote work. Compensation is competitive and includes a comprehensive benefits package aligned with the candidate’s experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations and supporting schedules for monthly, quarterly and annual close cycles.
• Perform variance analysis and explain key financial results.
• Ensure accuracy of the general ledger, financial statements and reports.
• Support consolidation and intercompany accounting across multiple entities.
• Prepare financial statements in compliance with US GAAP for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with auditors to support audit and compliance requirements.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoicing and collections.
• Provide backup for payroll processing and maintain payroll-related ledger accounts.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
• Work cross-functionally with operations, finance and leadership to resolve accounting issues and support business initiatives.
• Contribute to process improvements, automation efforts and ERP system enhancements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience (typically five or more years).
• CPA strongly preferred
• Solid understanding of GAAP and business analysis
• Experience with financial systems;
  Quick Books Desktop and Sage Intacct are a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to generate actionable insights.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with BI tools such as Power BI or Tableau preferred.
• High integrity and discretion when working with sensitive financial information.
