Job DescriptionThe Occupational Risk Profit Center is part of the Specialty Business Unit (SBU) within A&H and writes the following lines of business:
Occupational Accident, Contingent Liability and Employers Liability, Non-Trucking Liability, and Physical Damage for Independent Contractors with ancillary Workers’ Compensation for employees. The target markets are the trucking industry and the Gig Economy. The Associate Underwriter role will aid the underwriters with the responsibilities of underwriting, securing & retaining accounts, and the administrative tasks affiliated with the underwriting process. The Associate Underwriter is responsible for supporting a group of senior level underwriters along with building and managing a small block of their own business.
Strong preference for candidate to be in the Glastonbury, CT area but will consider remote.
What you will do for C&F:
- Build skills to make independent decisions within underwriting letter of authority across multiple disciplines
- Assist underwriters in quoting and servicing accounts in an accurate and timely manner
- Assist in the evaluation of renewals by collecting updated information, as directed by the underwriter
- Manage pre-qualification of submission documents to ensure adequate information is provided for evaluation
- Perform account setup within C&F systems
- Maintain proper file documentation
- Track new business and renewal accounts
- Execute proposal and binder creation
- Serve as a back-up to account management
- Build awareness of market trends
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve departmental goals
- Complete account reporting and performance metrics
- Handle ad hoc requests from the underwriting team and Occupational Risk leadership
- Abide by departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F's risk management controls
What you will bring to C&F:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
- 1 to 2 years of equivalent work experience or completion of an internship preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Strong demonstration of problem solving and analytical skills
- A customer centric mentality
- Critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- High degree of organization to prioritize work and follow up on issues
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools – Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point
- Travel required 20%
