The Controller is responsible for managing the monthly and year‑end close process, maintaining the accuracy of all company reporting and financial statements, as well as their compliance with GAAP and Government FARs. This position must determine the root cause of any specific or systemic problems, propose systems and programs to resolve the problem, and implement the solution. Responsibilities include assisting the Chief Financial Officer in all aspects of finance and accounting, payroll, accounts payable, cash management, and training team members.
The Controller will work proactively as a member of the corporate home office financial team to provide business/financial information and advice.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Manage and orchestrate daily operations of the accounting team on behalf of the VP Finance/CFO.
- Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce accurate and timely, monthly, quarterly, and annually reports and statements.
- Manage and perform month‑end close process including review of monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, preparation/review of journal entries, and corporate reports.
- Manage and support audits from external auditors to include the financial statement audit and audits from the Defense Contracting Audit Agency (DCAA).
- Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
- Manage the process for timely completion and submission of the ICE (Incurred Cost Estimate) Model.
- Responsible for accurately calculating higher level accruals and account reconciliations.
- Ensure accounting and internal control activities are performed effectively and efficiently.
- Assist in training staff and serve as mentor to encourage individual professional growth.
- Work with the VP Finance/CFO to evaluate new financial policies and procedures and ensure compliance with legal and corporate requirements.
- Improve systems and procedures and initiate implementation of corrective actions.
- Assign and review projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
- Review and analyze general ledger account activity, computation and testing of accruals and deferrals; prepare SG&A allocation; assist VP Finance/CFO in ensuring adherence to GAAP, writing financial policies and procedures, and the evaluation of internal control.
- Prepare and maintain all information for the semi‑monthly salaried payroll including keying the information into the payroll processing system (ADP) and, for the 401k, in the web portal system. Maintain the highest degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Oversee all bank account activity, prepare daily cash activity including recommended payments or advances on the credit line, prepare wire transfers, and reconcile all bank accounts monthly.
- Identify possible waste, fraud, and abuse and take proactive steps to notify direct supervisors.
- Participate in, and contribute to, strategic planning sessions as the most fluent financial officer in day‑to‑day operations.
- Hold trainings and awareness meetings with general managers and other key personnel to promote finance and accounting best practices.

Required Skills / Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 5‑7 years of overall accounting experience
- Proven knowledge of cost accounting and understanding of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and requirements
