As the Tax Manager, you will lead by example in providing high-quality tax services and guidance to clients while supporting the department’s growth. Your responsibilities will include preparing and analyzing tax records, managing local, state, and federal tax returns, and handling tax refund claims. You will also compile financial reports, maintain tax records, perform reconciliations, and conduct specialized studies. Additionally, you'll keep senior management updated, mentor tax professionals, and contribute to business development and client relations.
✔️What You’ll Do
- Utilize advanced knowledge of individual and business tax principles and develop specialized expertise in at least two taxation areas (e.g., estates and trusts, payroll, property/excise taxes).
- Oversee the review and preparation of individual and business tax returns (e.g., Forms 1040, 1041, 1120, 1120S, and 1065).
- Represent clients during tax examinations and navigate the appeals, penalties, and interest processes.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant tax codes and maintain rigorous standards when preparing statistical, financial, and miscellaneous tax reports.
- Client Relationship & Business Development:
- Initiate and manage tax consulting engagements, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance services offered to existing clients.
- Maintain direct client relationships as a trusted advisor, ensuring their needs are met while supporting billing and collections for assigned accounts.
- Collaborate with team members to transfer clients and services internally when appropriate, thereby expanding our client service footprint.
- Supervise, mentor, and review the work of Tax Accountants and Supervisors, fostering their professional development and technical expertise.
- Develop and deliver in-house training on fundamental tax topics to bolster team knowledge and skills.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the department by providing insights and recommendations for process improvements.
- Operational Excellence:
- Apply advanced computer and software skills (including tax software such as CCH Axcess and workpaper documentation solutions like Engagement) to optimize tax processes and deliverables.
- Continuously seek improvements in current systems and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Maintain a well-organized work schedule to meet multiple deadlines in an environment with varied client interactions and project demands.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- CPA, EA, and/or JD credentials are preferred.
- Minimum of five years of public accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Proven track record in client relationship management and business development.
- In-depth understanding of individual and business taxation principles, estates and trusts, and at least two specialized areas of tax compliance.
- General familiarity with payroll tax issues, property taxes, and excise taxes as they relate to assigned clients.
- Proficient with bookkeeping software (e.g., Sage and/or Quick Books) with the ability to advise clients accordingly.
- Expertise in using leading tax software (e.g. CCH Axcess) and workpaper documentation tools such as Profx Engagement
- Ability to analyze existing processes and recommend improvements for continuous efficiency gains.
Competitive Compensation
- Salary range: $106,945 - $164,000
