Sr. Payroll Tax Analyst
We are looking for a Sr. Payroll Tax Analyst to join our client’s team in this fully remote contract position. The position is a full‑time 4‑month contract with potential to extend, starting as soon as possible. Candidates must be available to connect with the team at least once a day during the PST time zone.
Ideal Candidate: At least 7+ years of relevant payroll tax work experience.
Role OverviewOur client is seeking a Senior Payroll Tax Analyst to support U.S. federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance and provision efforts. Reporting to the Senior Payroll Manager, this role will partner with the payroll team, vendors, and key stakeholders to drive compliance success and build a strong payroll tax foundation.
Responsibilities- Own accurate and timely payroll processing and Workday payroll tax compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
- Report directly to the Senior Manager, Payroll.
- Support periodic, monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax reconciliations.
- Identify, register, and administer new payroll tax accounts for new work locations.
- Maintain, update, and close payroll tax accounts as locations change.
- Review and audit payroll tax filings, including W‑2s, 941s, and related reports.
- Generate and analyze payroll tax reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Complete monthly and quarterly state tax reconciliations and filings.
- Identify opportunities to optimize tax strategies, incentives, and credits.
- Maintain and update state unemployment insurance rates in Workday.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state wage and hour laws and regulations.
- Manage ADP Smart Compliance exceptions and client responsibilities.
- Reconcile payroll tax accounts, investigate discrepancies, and resolve tax issues.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required payroll tax documentation.
- Monitor payroll tax law changes, assess impact, and recommend compliance actions.
- Ensure payroll systems are correctly configured for tax calculations and updates.
- Complete TPA and POA applications within payroll platforms.
- Partner with payroll teams and external agencies to resolve tax‑related matters.
- Drive process improvements to enhance payroll tax accuracy and efficiency.
- Communicate tax deadlines, status updates, and workflow guidance.
