A long-tenured and well-respected Controller is retiring, creating an opportunity for a compassionate, steady, and highly capable financial leader to step into this key role. This position is perfect for someone who thrives in a small-business environment, enjoys wearing multiple hats, and wants to meaningfully impact both operations and long-term financial strategy.
The CFO will own all corporate-level accounting, financial reporting, and analysis for both the company and other entities. This is a hands‑on leadership role requiring strong technical depth and the ability to navigate a regulated environment.
- Core Financial Management
- Oversee all accounting, financial reporting, and financial analysis for the company and its captive insurance entity.
- Lead month‑end close (5–15 days post client close) and maintain strong internal controls.
- Manage GL, reconciliations, deferred revenue, and financial statement preparation.
- Coordinate tax activities and partner with an external CPA firm for annual tax review.
- Serve as primary liaison for auditors and ensure compliance.
- Perform or oversee full-cycle accounting, including corporate-level accounting tasks.
- Manage payroll and benefits accounting for six employees.
- Handle fund flows between corporate and captive entities, including IRR calculations and supporting schedules.
- Maintain and enhance accounting systems; system conversion experience preferred.
- Reconcile and align data between MS Dynamics and Quick Books.
- Improve processes and reporting efficiencies using Excel (XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, hyperlinking, formatting).
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
- Provide insights on performance, risks, opportunities, and regulated industry requirements.
- Must‑Have Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA (active or inactive).
- 10+ years of experience in a small business (25 employees or fewer).
- Hands‑on experience in GL management, month‑end close, financial reporting, internal controls, payroll, and tax coordination.
- Ability to reconcile MS Dynamics with Quick Books.
- Experience working with auditors.
Nice‑to‑Have Experience
- Regulated industry background (banking, insurance, money management, or SOX).
- Captive insurance exposure.
- IRR modeling and fund flow analysis.
- System conversion experience.
Who Will Thrive in This Role
- Compassionate, reasonable, and collaborative leaders.
- Someone who enjoys hands‑on work as much as strategic guidance.
- A system‑minded problem solver who can streamline processes.
- A Controller who thrives in small, tight‑knit teams.
