Purpose CPA is a CPA BC Pre-Approved Training Office for Practical Experience. We are approved under the Advisory, Compilation, and Tax ("AdCT") experience path, allowing team members on the CPA designation journey to fulfill their practical experience requirements while working with us.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?Full‑time Staff Accountant who enjoys number problems and helping others. You’re detail‑oriented, pragmatic, reliable, a quick learner, and able to work independently. You have several years of accounting experience, are eager to learn on a great team while undergoing the CPA PREP and PEP journey, are entrepreneurial and enjoy working in a dynamic environment.
This is a fully remote cloud‑based position and only for applicants living in the Greater Vancouver Lower Mainland area.
Currently we are only accepting applicants with full Canada working clearance (sorry, no student visas or temporary workers).

WHAT WOULD I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR? Financial Reporting Needs and Systems- Analyze the financial reporting information required by external stakeholders, including regulatory requirements (can include specialized financial reporting requirements)
- Analyze/identify the appropriateness of the basis of financial reporting
- Analyze the accuracy and reliability of financial information
- Research the appropriate accounting policies and procedures (or explain the basis in which they were selected and applied to an organization)
- Support the design and implementation of enhancements to accounting and finance processes, systems, and control
- Evaluate management communication
- Evaluate financial reporting results for stakeholders (internal or external)
- Evaluate the impact of strategic, and operational decision on financial results (external or internal)
- Evaluate management information requirements
- Evaluate business processes, systems and data requirements and recommend improvements to meet information needs
- Evaluate ethical and privacy issues related to information technology and its use
- Cost management: apply the appropriate cost classifications and costing methods for management of ongoing operations, apply cost management techniques appropriate for specific decisions, and analyze potential changes identified by applying process improvement methodologies
- Profitability management: prepare sensitivity analysis, and analyze alternatives for sustainable profit maximization/capacity management performance
- Analyze possible root causes of performance issues through one of:
- Analyze the implications of management incentive schemes and employee compensation methods
- Analyze performance using accepted frameworks or KPIs
- Analyze performance of responsibility centers
- Evaluate treatment for transactions/events
- Draw conclusion and communicate results
- Analyze specific tax planning opportunities for individuals or corporations, and applicable GST implications, such as: (a) Income tax implications of death of individual (b) compensation planning between shareholders and a corporation, or (c) purchase and sale of a corporation
- Supporting the accounting month and year end process
- Preparing Government Sales Tax Reports and performing filings
- Preparing corporate and personal tax files
- Prepare financial and accounting reports, and analysis for client meetings
- Ideally 2-5 years of post‑education work experience in the field of accounting and tax; preference given to applicants with public practice experience
- University degree in an accounting concentration
- Strong systems and computer experience with Quickbooks, MS Word, Excel and Google Suite
- Analytical mindset with ability to manage several accounts/duties concurrently
- Attention to detail with strong communication
- Organized and process oriented
- Strong communication skills

You are expected to have the appropriate arrangements (internet, workspace, etc.) to focus on work asionally, you may visit a client or co‑work with our team. We’ll provide you the equipment and training to ensure you succeed in your role.
