Marathon TS is seeking a VP of Accounting and Finance to support our federal client. The Vice President of Accounting and Finance is a key member of the Leadership Team and is responsible for overseeing the financial and accounting functions of the organization. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity of financial data, maintaining robust internal controls, and providing strategic insights that support the organization’s revenue‑generating business units.

A significant part of this role involves leveraging advanced skills to analyze complex data, model scenarios, and generate critical reports. Furthermore, the VP will ensure strict adherence to government contracting regulations (e.g., DCAA, FAR, CAS), overseeing compliance and audit readiness. This leader must have a strong accounting background and will be instrumental in implementing best practices across the accounting and finance functions, streamlining processes, and fostering a collaborative environment to enhance overall organizational effectiveness and support the achievement of strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring strict adherence to government contracting regulations (e.g., DCAA, FAR, CAS), overseeing compliance and audit readiness.
  • Implementing best practices across these functions, streamlining processes, and fostering a collaborative environment to enhance overall organizational effectiveness and support the achievement of strategic business objectives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. A Master’s degree (MBA or equivalent) or CPA certification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, demonstrating a strong understanding of financial principles and practices.
  • Demonstrable experience overseeing information technology functions, including strategic planning, infrastructure management, and system implementations.
  • Demonstrable advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including expertise in pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, HLOOKUPs, INDEX/MATCH, conditional formatting, data validation, and financial modeling.
  • Extensive and proven experience with government contracting accounting, including a deep understanding of DCAA audit requirements, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), indirect rate structures, and cost‑plus contract accounting.
  • Proven experience in managing all aspects of the accounting cycle, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of financial consolidation systems, Onestream.
  • Demonstrated success in streamlining accounting processes, implementing financial controls, and improving efficiency within the accounting function.
  • Strong understanding of accounting software and ERP system, Deltek Costpoint.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate high‑performing finance and accounting teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) applied to accounting functions is a plus.
