We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Actuary to play a critical role in our Actuarial Reserving department, supporting and providing leadership thought to our Specialty Finance division. This position offers the opportunity to set reserves for unique and complex products, working independently while being recognized for your expertise. You will be an integral part of the ESS – Specialty Finance leadership team, contributing to strategic discussions and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

• Impactful Role: Directly influence risk selection and contribute to the overall success of our Specialty Finance business.
• Diverse Responsibilities: Work across various disciplines, including E&S/S business, Accounting/Controllership, Performance Management & Analytics, and Reserving & Pricing Actuarial.
• Growth Opportunity: This is a new role within Nationwide, offering the chance to build and shape the future of our specialty finance reserving function.
• Long‑Term Focus: Work with long‑term contracts such as Mortgage Reinsurance, Collateral Protection, Lease Enhancement, Residual Value, Contract, and Credit Wrap insurance. Contribute to building tools to set both Loss and Unearned Premium Reserves.
• Dynamic Environment: Be prepared to build tools on the fly and adapt to the evolving needs of the business.
• Technical Acumen: Ability to understand the nature of these complex contracts and build mathematical loss models to understand loss/premium/risk.

As a Senior Actuary, you’ll be an expert and will provide leadership direction and oversight for the creation and performance of complex actuarial techniques and procedures and risk analysis. You’ll manage research and direct others to ensure efficient, consistent and integrated data and analysis. We’ll count on you to provide a strategic vision for the team and deliver business recommendations that are crucial to the success of Nationwide and the protection we provide our customers.

You’ll work independently and may lead others (directly and/or indirectly).

• Acts as technical expert of actuarial methodologies allowing the ability to source and manipulate data within standard requirements. Identifies new ways to utilize data driving overall strategic vision.
• Conducts complex analyses adhering to actuarial standards by selecting appropriate data sources, making assumptions, recognizing considerations, and developing recommendations. Accountable for resolving unreasonable results/non‑optimal solutions using experience and professional judgment. Analysis conducted will be used to influence broad strategic vision of Nationwide.
• Accurately documents assumptions, methods, sources and considerations in an organized fashion.
• Creates cohesive presentations and recommendations of actuarial findings that are suitable for technical and non‑technical audiences at the OCFO leadership level. May professionally represent company's position with regulators, auditors and external vendors. May negotiate within defined parameters.
• Responsible for strategic development and oversight of multiple work plans ensuring accurate and timely delivery of product.
• Strategic leader of peer review process. Responsible for driving collaboration cross‑functionally, identifying gaps in process, recommending and implementing changes as needed to ensure quality work.
