Role Snapshot
Our Actuarial Analyst works in a team setting applying mathematics, probability, statistics, and business principles to support rating/pricing, valuation, healthcare economics, and financial forecasting in a Health Plan/Insurance environment. The analyst assists actuaries and provides support across Network Management, Underwriting, Sales & Marketing, and Finance.
Salary Range$80,000 ~ $100,000 (base pay may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience).
Work LocationRemote work permitted in approved states:
Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin. New employees living within 45 miles of WPS Headquarters (1717 W. Broadway, Madison, WI) will work hybrid 2 days a week.
- Assist in actuarial research, experience studies, statistical analyses, and actuarial calculations.
- Build, maintain, and enhance models for pricing, forecasting, and risk assessment.
- Retrieve and validate data for rate filings and actuarial models; assist in building rate studies, pricing tools, and financial reports.
- Perform peer reviews, identify and communicate errors and risks.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors for regulatory audits and examinations.
- Prepare and coordinate rate filings required for the Commissioner of Insurance.
- Work accurately on procedural tasks and resolve arising issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, or related field.
- At least 2 exams completed toward the Associate of the Society of Actuaries designation.
- 2 or more years of actuarial experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and actuarial modeling tools/programming languages (SQL, R, Python).
- Experience in reconciling report results.
- Strong planning, organizing, coordinating, and multitasking skills.
- 4 or more years of actuarial experience.
- Experience in a health insurance or health plan environment.
- Diverse actuarial exposure, e.g., Reserving, Pricing, Underwriting support, Network Management, Sales & Marketing, Finance.
- High speed cable or fiber internet.
- Minimum of 10 Mbps downstream and at least 1 Mbps upstream.
