About the Opportunity

Our client, a newly incorporated Canadian not-for-profit organization, is seeking a Finance and Operations Officer to join their team in a newly created role.

The Finance and Operations Officer will support day-to-day accounting, finance, and operational activities, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, and effective administrative processes. This position operates within a matrix reporting structure, reporting technically to a Finance Manager and functionally to an Executive Director. The role is fully remote and offers a high degree of flexibility while collaborating across multiple time zones.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Collect supporting documentation and prepare payment sheets in accordance with chart of accounts and coding instructions
  • Perform day-to-day bookkeeping and maintain accurate financial records in Quick Books Online
  • Maintain bank accounts, corporate credit cards, and payable platforms
  • Review vendor invoices for compliance with policies and procedures
  • Prepare vendor and consultant payments and bank transfers
  • Complete bank reconciliations and general ledger entries
  • Assist with monthly, annual, and year-end closings
  • Support audit preparation and external audit processes
  • Monitor receivables, payables, advances, and cash flow
  • Prepare internal financial reports, draft budgets, and forecasts
  • Monitor budget versus actuals and flag variances
  • Maintain organized financial records and filing systems
  • Support donor and grant financial reporting
  • Maintain grant agreements and ensure compliance with funding terms
  • Support grant-making processes, documentation, and filing systems
  • Assist with partner contracting and information collection
  • Support development and implementation of grant-management systems
  • About You

    The successful candidate will have the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in bookkeeping or accounting, preferably within a not-for-profit or mission-driven organization
  • Experience using Quick Books Online or similar accounting systems
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote, collaborative environment
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
