YOUR IMPACT
As Financial Controller, you will own M&P Mercurys day-to-day accounting operations while supporting strategic financial growth. In this role, you will:
- Lead and mentor a small but growing finance team (Assistant Accountant and Accountant), staying close to the work and building their technical skills.
- Oversee full-cycle accounting, including AP, AR, GL, payroll, fixed assets, inventory, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for complex, multi-locations.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling, providing actionable insights to support day-to-day operations and long-term strategic decisions.
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and working capital, maintaining the companys financial health and supporting growth initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and Canadian tax regulations, coordinating audits, tax filings, and other reporting requirements.
- Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to analyze financial performance, identify opportunities for efficiency, and enhance profitability.
- Optimize accounting systems and processes, streamlining reporting tools and workflows to improve accuracy and scalability.
- Maintain M&P Mercurys internal controls and policies, safeguarding company assets and minimizing risk.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives, supporting process improvements and initiatives that drive business growth in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
YOUR BACKGROUND
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience leading to an Accounting Manager or Controller role.
- Possess a CPA designation (or close to completion), with strong technical accounting knowledge and technical expertise.
- Hands-on multi-location, inventory accounting experience with full-cycle accounting and financial operations, ideally in luxury retail, marine, or dealership environments.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and excel in a sales or B2C-driven environment, driving financial operations and business performance.
- Strong expertise in GAAP, Canadian tax, compliance, audits, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/accounting systems with the ability to pick up quickly and implement new systems.
- A practical, roll-up-your-sleeves leadership style with a willingness to jump in, support the growing accounting team, and own the details.
- Versatile and proactive, comfortable owning both accounting and administrative functions, successfully wearing multiple hats.
- Effective communicator with excellent organizational skills, thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
