Cost Analyst – Job Type: Temporary (12-month assignment)
Pay Rate: $29–34/hour DOE
Location:
White Plains, NY | Hybrid (minimum 3 days on-site per week)
Madison Approach Staffing is recruiting for a Cost Analyst to support our client's Utility Operations Cost Control team. This role will provide critical reporting and control functions throughout the project lifecycle for utility operations including generation, transmission, canal infrastructure, and headquarters projects. The ideal candidate will monitor project costs, review vendor invoices, verify budgets, and maintain accurate financial tracking systems. This position requires strong Excel skills, SAP experience, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams to ensure accurate cost allocation and budget compliance.
This is an immediate-start, 12-month contract opportunity.
- Review vendor invoices for proper purchase order line allocation and accuracy
- Monitor project costs against schedule and annual budget, total project estimated costs, and year‑to‑date expenditures
- Verify budget requisition requests to ensure alignment with approved project budgets
- Conduct forecasting activities and monitor project cost controls (PCC)
- Update and maintain the utility operations project portfolio website with current cost and budget information
- Track project expenditures and identify variances from planned budgets
- Generate cost reports and analysis to support project management decision‑making
- Collaborate with project managers and finance teams to ensure accurate cost tracking and reporting
- Assist with monthly and quarterly financial reporting activities
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field - Experience:
1–5 years as a project cost analyst or in a similar financial analysis role - Technical
Skills:
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis) - ERP Systems:
Hands‑on experience with SAP for financial tracking and reporting - Analytical
Skills:
Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies - Communication:
Effective written and verbal communication skills - Organization:
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously - Must be local to the Tri‑State area and available for W2 employment
- Experience in utility, infrastructure, or construction cost analysis
- Knowledge of project management principles and project lifecycle
- Experience with capital project budgeting and forecasting
- Familiarity with procurement processes and purchase order systems
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Professional certifications such as CMA (Certified Management Accountant) or CPA
- Monday through Friday, 7.5‑hour work day with 0.5‑hour unpaid lunch
- Hybrid schedule with minimum 3 days on‑site (remote work privileges may be adjusted based on business needs)
- Paid for time worked only; no paid holidays, vacation, or sick days during contract period
- Overtime not permitted unless authorized in advance
