Position: Specialist II, Financial Literacy (Grant Funded)
Location: City of Rochester

Function of Position:

The Financial Literacy Specialist supports students in understanding, managing, and improving their overall financial health through personalized financial coaching and education. This position plays a critical role in helping students make informed financial decisions that support their academic persistence, degree completion, and successful transition into the workforce. The Advisor provides one-on-one financial coaching, delivers group workshops, and assists students in navigating recent federal changes related to Stafford Loans, repayment options, and loan forgiveness initiatives.


* This is a temporary position that may be renewed annually, contingent upon the availability of the College budget and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized financial coaching to help students assess their financial health, establish goals, and develop customized financial plans.
  • Educate students on changes to federal financial aid, including Stafford Loan updates, repayment plan options (such as SAVE and Income-Driven Repayment), loan forgiveness programs, and default prevention strategies.
  • Conduct at least three one-on-one coaching sessions per student each semester, focusing on budgeting, credit management, debt reduction, and long-term financial stability.
  • Facilitate personal finance and debt management workshops, including topics such as loan repayment strategies, credit building, emergency savings, and financial planning after graduation.
  • Provide targeted outreach and follow-up to students identified as at-risk for loan default or financial hardship.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Aid Office to support default management efforts, ensuring accurate communication of loan obligations and repayment support.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of student interactions, progress, and outcomes for institutional and grant compliance purposes.
  • Assist with marketing and outreach efforts, including developing digital content, maintaining social media presence, and engaging students through virtual financial literacy initiatives.
  • Support campus-wide financial wellness events and special programs to foster a culture of financial empowerment among students.
  • Stay informed on federal and state financial aid policy changes, student loan regulations, and best practices in financial coaching and education.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Requirements:

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Education, Counseling, or a related field required
  • Experience providing financial counseling, coaching, or related student support services.
  • Strong knowledge of student financial aid programs, including recent Stafford Loan and repayment policy changes.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds toward achieving financial stability and independence.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently


  • Additional Information:

    Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $52,000 to $55,000 and is based on the mentioned factors.
