Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic & motivated CCAB Qualified Accountant to join the finance team to support Black Country Pathology Services (BCPS). You will be a self‑motivated, proactive individual with strong time‑management, communication and organisational skills. To succeed in this role you will have a proven track record of delivery and professional credibility. You will provide a comprehensive financial partnering role to the services, including support around budget setting, financial reporting, service redesign & savings programmes, business case & tender response development, and delivering value through financial advice and challenge.
It is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional looking to progress their career. Finance are also embracing agile working – you may work within the finance department, within service areas or at home, with an expectation to be 'on site' at least two days per week. As this post supports services hosted for other organisations, occasional travel between sites across the Black Country and wider West Midlands is required.
MainDuties
The post holder will provide financial support and advice to the hosted services delivered by Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, namely Black Country Pathology Services (BCPS) and West Midlands Cancer Alliance (WMCA) & NIHR Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN). The services have a combined budget of approx. £109m. Core duties include:
- Advising operational managers, clinicians and directors on the most effective use of finance and other resources.
- Leading a finance team of five, representing the Chief Financial Officer at service meetings and ensuring decisions are made within the agreed financial framework.
- Co‑ordinating the BCPS savings programme and aligning progress and liaison with partner Trusts.
- Delivering accurate monthly management accounting, budget monitoring and financial forecasts.
- Preparing business cases and reviewing cost‑improvement targets, income generation and tender costing.
- Communicating complex financial information to multi‑disciplinary groups and providing training to non‑financial staff.
- Ensuring compliance with Trust and national policies, reporting any non‑compliance to the Chief Finance Officer.
- Providing financial input for service level agreements, partnership agreements and for the annual business‑planning and budget‑setting process.

As Hosted Services Finance Manager you will:
- Lead the finance team providing financial advice and information for the hosted services.
- Ensure high standards of financial information and adherence to financial principles.
- Manage recruitment, appraisals, personal development, sickness absence policy and disciplinary issues.
- Co‑ordinate team during the monthly management accounting process.
