Job ProfileUnder the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Financial Analyst is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of sound financial systems and internal cash controls for the Department, primarily related to Transit’s revenue streams, including fare revenue and fare programs such as the eco‑pass, post‑secondary, and U‑Pass programs. The role plans, coordinates, and ensures compliance of all financial aspects for Transit’s Business Centre, providing timely, accurate, and objective financial reporting and analysis to the Assistant Controller.
The position also maintains City procurement rules and administrative standards and develops internal controls to safeguard Transit’s assets. Occasionally the analyst will be assigned to special departmental projects and supervise, train, and mentor staff. The analyst supports forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning and participates in year‑end file preparation. The role may involve working directly with external auditors or other third parties and providing ad‑hoc reports and analyses as directed.
- Provides financial control and oversight of the daily office operations for the Transit Business Centre.
- Provides leadership, supervision, and training for staff.
- Acts for the Assistant Controller in their absence and provides other related duties as assigned.
- Professional CPA accounting designation in good standing.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or a related field; a combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Three years of directly related experience in budgeting, forecasting, business plans, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
- Strong financial analytical skills and experience in preparing and analyzing financial forecasts and operating and/or capital budgets.
