Head of Finance – Welsh Speaking

Make your mark, shape the future.

Are you a talented, progressive and dynamic leader, ready to take on a strategic finance and treasury role where you can influence change and help shape an evolving organisation? This is a rare opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation with strong values and a passion for supporting both communities and colleagues.

About the organisation

As a respected organisation and employer of 330+ staff, they’re proud of their longstanding, loyal workforce and the positive culture they’ve built. The organisation offers excellent working conditions, generous benefits, and opportunities to build a meaningful, long-term career.

The finance team plays a vital role in helping the organisation evolve and deliver value for money - and now, they’re looking for a dynamic Head of Finance to join them in this exciting period of positive change.

The role

Reporting to the Director of Resources, as part of the Senior Management Team you’ll play a key leadership role in shaping the finance strategy and with the restructuring of the finance function. You’ll lead and inspire a skilled finance team of 10 (including a Finance Manager) based across the offices in Penygroes and Denbigh, and work collaboratively across the organisation to help achieve ambitious corporate goals.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead on financial compliance, treasury, and risk, and provide support and timely reports to the Executive Leadership Team, Committees and the Board as required.
  • Oversee finance, budgeting, and audit functions to ensure robust governance and sustainability.
  • Drive organisational change, culture, and cross-functional collaboration aligned with values.
  • Lead and inspire teams to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services shaped by customer voice.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and ensure the organisation stays innovative, inclusive, and future-ready.

About you

This is an ideal career opportunity for a proactive, confident, values-driven leader who can bring energy, insight, and strategic thinking to the role.

To be considered, you’ll need to demonstrate:

  • ACCA, CIMA, or ICAEW qualified (or nearing completion).
  • Strong finance and treasury experience gained in either public sector or large private industry.
  • Experience developing finance policies and ensuring compliance.
  • Experience preparing statutory accounts and Board-level reports
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to simplify complex data and provide recommendations.
  • Comfortable presenting verbally at all levels, internally and externally.
  • Experience participating in internal and external audits.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to mentor senior teams and foster collaboration.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a forward-thinking mindset.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to transport.
  • Fully Bilingual Welsh/English is preferred. As a minimum, applicants must be able to hold a business conversation in Welsh (at least intermediate level - perhaps a little Wenglish used), with willingness to develop further with support. A translation service is available for business meetings (where conducted in Welsh) and report writing.

What’s on offer

  • Permanent contract.
  • Attractive salary, with level dependent on experience and qualifications.
  • Work/life balance - Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week. Although flexibility required due to nature of the role.
  • Hybrid working – option to work from home 2 days per week, with the rest of the time working in either the Denbigh and Penygroes office as preferred. You will need to meet the team in the other office at least once per week/fortnight, and attend leadership meetings which predominantly take place in Denbigh once per month.
  • Very generous benefits package – see full recruitment pack.
