Position: Employment Tax Lead
Location: Greater London

Schroders is seeking an energetic and motivated individual to join our Group Tax Team at our London headquarters. In this senior role, you will lead our group's compliance, strategy and risk management efforts related to UK and overseas employment tax compliance, benefits, and global mobility. Reporting to the Head of Group Tax, you will oversee the HMRC relationship for employment taxes, ensure regulatory compliance (including IR35), and provide expert advice to our People & Culture, Finance, and Legal teams.

The team

Group Tax is made up of a team of 31 tax professionals based in London, Zurich, Singapore and Luxembourg. The team work closely with all areas of the business providing advice and assistance on tax-related matters. They also undertake or provide oversight for the Group's tax compliance obligations globally, manage relationships with tax authorities and assist with various forms of tax and financial reporting.

What

you’ll do
  • Strategy & Compliance: Define and implement global employment tax strategies, ensuring compliance across all jurisdictions.
  • Policy Development: Develop and update internal employment tax policies to ensure they remain compliant and effective.
  • Regulatory Advisory
    :
    Advise on tax implications for payroll, non-cash remuneration, equity share scheme compliance and reporting.
  • Risk Management
    :
    Develop, own, and improve internal controls to identify, mitigate, and monitor employment tax risks.
  • Tax Authority Liaison
    :
    Lead negotiations, enquiries, and audits with tax authorities (e.g., HMRC, IRS).
  • Global Mobility & Payroll
    :
    Support international employee mobility (assignments, remote work) and oversee payroll compliance.
  • Training and development: Provide training and guidance on employment tax matters to the team and other departments.
  • Stakeholder Management
    :
    Advise senior leadership on employment tax risks and collaborate with HR, Legal, and Reward teams on policy.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need:
  • CTA or equivalent.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • Experience in professional services or in house tax team role.
  • Deep knowledge of UK PAYE, NICs, expense rules, as well as international employment tax principles.
  • Leadership skills, with experience managing teams and working with cross functional stakeholders.
  • Project management skills to oversee multiple initiatives.
The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help
  • Experience of carried interest and their employment tax implications would be an advantage.
  • Experience of working in financial services would be an advantage.
