Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the Trust to shape and deliver transformational change aligned to the NHS 10‑year plan ambitions. The postholder will oversee the management accounts of clinical divisions, provide financial and commercial leadership, work collaboratively with operational leadership, clinical teams and system partners, and be a key part of the Finance Senior Leadership team.
This role reports to the Deputy CFO. As a small Trust, it offers regular access to the Executive team and wider system partners, supporting professional development and exposure to a diverse range of opportunities.
Supported by the Trust’s ambition to improve quality and integrate patient pathways, the postholder will deliver proactive financial leadership, advise on all aspects of financial management, and drive transformational change across the Trust and its Herefordshire Place.
The role is based across the main NHS sites in Herefordshire and embraces agile working through a combination of on‑site and remote work.
MainDuties & Responsibilities
As a Senior Finance Manager you will:
- Lead delivery of timely and accurate monthly financial positions, analysis and reporting.
- Provide proactive day‑to‑day financial leadership to support service development, drive efficiencies and contribute to transformational change.
- Motivate and engage your finance team through collaborative, supportive working that encourages high performance and continuous improvement.
Essential criteria
- Professionally qualified accountant with current CCAB or CIMA membership.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development in line with your professional accounting body.
- Further specialist finance training and experience related to wider healthcare finance.
Essential criteria
- Expert user of financial systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrable evidence of influencing and persuading.
- Highly numerate and analytical.
- Excellent verbal reasoning.
- Advanced report‑writing skills.
- Understanding of current NHS structures and key policies.
- Knowledge of acute hospital and community healthcare environment.
- Ability to lead and motivate staff.
- Ability to prioritise, plan and manage workload effectively and sustainably.
Desirable criteria
- NHS experience.
Essential criteria
- Extensive expert knowledge and experience in NHS financial management or equivalent.
- Significant experience at a senior level in the finance sector.
- Acute sector experience.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
