Financial Analyst
Overview
For students in their penultimate year of study undertaking a degree including placement experience. The role offers an opportunity to work in a professional and organised environment for a multi‑billion‑pound fuel industry retailer. The focus is on self‑development and learning, with chances to make meaningful contributions to business ideas and processes, mentored by a helpful and friendly finance team. You will also have the chance to integrate and work with other teams in the business.
Start Date: August 2026
Main Accountabilities- Support the Control team with month‑end reporting and balance sheet reconciliation preparation
- Post month‑end journals and provide commentary on P&L line variances month on month and to budget
- Assist with ad‑hoc projects
- Improve understanding of the P&L and balance sheet
- Help prepare statutory accounts
- Calculate tax capital allowances
- Collaborate with other business stakeholders to support their needs
- Develop an understanding of core business finance processes within finance operations
- Suggest process improvements to enhance efficiencies
- Gain experience in other finance departments such as FP&A
- Follow business‑specific guidelines and health & safety procedures
No fixed responsibilities at the outset – duties are designed around your learning style and eagerness to explore different areas. The main task is to support the Control team members and, as confidence and experience grow over the year, take on increasing responsibility. A 3‑month probationary period will allow assessment of strengths and development opportunities before progressing to self‑accountabilities.
Work ContextOffice environment, 09:00‑17:00 Monday to Friday, based in St Albans. One day per week of home working is permitted.
ComplexityMFG is constantly undergoing change and improvement. The candidate is expected to take on new tasks and processes, keeping pace with a fast‑paced environment. There are no expectations to work extra hours; learning is structured at your own pace. Regular 1:1s will provide support and resources for self‑review.
Knowledge & Skills Required- Studying a degree related to accounting or finance, with additional elements such as business, management, economics etc.
- Minimum 120 UCAS points (BBB)
- Right to Work in the UK required
- Strong work ethic and ability to remain motivated under pressure
- Good communication and team‑working skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365, especially Excel
- Strong organisational skills and self‑management
- Desire to expand skill set and knowledge
- Ability to analyse large datasets and draw conclusions
