Job Title: Specialist Support Accountant

Salary: £29.96 per hour

Type: Full Time, 6-Month Contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Support Accountant to join Shropshire Council in Shrewsbury. This six-month contract offers a competitive hourly rate and is ideal for a qualified accountant looking to apply their expertise in a flexible and supportive environment. The role is primarily home-based, with only occasional office attendance required.

What you will do:
  • Provide specialist financial support in developing the DSG management plan.
  • Ensure financial models are robust, accurate, and data-driven.
  • Conduct scenario planning and financial modelling to support the Medium Term Financial Plan (MTFP).
  • Work collaboratively with the Education team, Children's Services Finance Business Partner, and DSG Funding Coordinator.
  • Continue providing financial support to Education teams following submission of the plan in June.
  • Contribute to strategic financial planning and reporting processes.
Requirements:
  • Qualified Accountant status (CIPFA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent).
  • Strong financial modelling and scenario planning experience.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Experience with in local government or public sector finance is advantageous.
