Personal Tax Senior

Colchester

Clark Wood are currently working with an successful accountancy firm who are looking to recruit a Personal Tax Senior to join their growing team in Colchester.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected practice. The firm works with a diverse portfolio of clients, including high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, trusts, partnerships, and owner-managed businesses, providing a full range of tax, accountancy, and advisory services.

The successful candidate will join an established tax team and take responsibility for a varied portfolio of personal tax clients. The role will involve preparing self-assessment tax returns, trust and partnership returns, undertaking capital gains tax calculations, assisting with income tax planning projects, and liaising directly with both clients and HMRC.

In addition, you will support the development of junior team members through training and mentoring, assist with workload management across the team, and ensure all compliance procedures and deadlines are met. This role offers excellent exposure to complex personal tax matters and provides a clear pathway for career progression within a supportive and people-focused environment.

The ideal candidate will be ATT qualified or currently studying towards the qualification, with previous experience gained within a personal tax environment. Strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage a varied workload effectively will be essential.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Preparing self-assessment tax returns for a varied portfolio of clients
  • Preparing trust and partnership tax returns, including complex cases
  • Managing tax compliance deadlines and ensuring timely submission of returns
  • Completing and maintaining tax return control procedures
  • Reviewing and updating client PAYE coding notices
  • Undertaking National Insurance calculations
  • Preparing Capital Gains Tax computations
  • Assisting with income tax planning assignments
  • Liaising directly with clients and HMRC regarding tax matters
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of staff
  • Assisting with workload management across the tax team
  • Maintaining training and development records
  • Producing progress reports and monitoring assignment status
  • Managing workloads effectively to maximise efficiency and profitability
Skills
  • ATT qualified or currently studying towards ATT
  • Previous experience within a personal tax environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK personal taxation
  • Experience preparing self-assessment, trust and partnership tax returns
  • Knowledge of Capital Gains Tax and income tax planning matters
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and tax software packages
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interest in business, commerce and taxation
