Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Management Accountant.
This Senior Management Accountant will support the Divisional Finance team in delivering effective financial management, leading on budgeting, reporting and forecasting, and providing expert finance advice to budget holders and key stakeholders. The role will also contribute to cost improvement processes and ensure adherence to financial controls throughout the division.
Key Responsibilities• Lead the production of monthly finance reports and budget statements throughout the month‑end process, clearly highlighting month‑on‑month movements, actual performance against plan, analysing and interpreting variances, and proactively working with the team to explain and understand these variances.
• Regularly meet with budget holders to review their budget and spend in detail, ensuring they fully understand their financial position from a GBP and WTE perspective.
• Act as the first point of contact for finance queries, building strong working relationships to support effective financial management and financial control.
• Act as line manager for the Management Accountant within the Divisional Finance Team, contributing to allocation of work, recruitment decisions, career development and appraisals.
Person Specification Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience- Knowledge and expertise across a range of accounting areas acquired through professional accountancy qualifications (e.g., AAT, CCAB) or equivalent experience gained in a finance role.
- Detailed understanding of financial systems, general ledger transactions and reporting.
- Experience supervising a team.
- Detailed understanding of budgetary control processes.
- Understanding of financial information systems and ability to extract information to support budget managers.
- Comfortable with IT and able to use spreadsheet modelling packages.
- Experience in an NHS finance environment.
- Experience with Oracle IT system.
- Line management experience.
- Ability to work from home effectively / flexibly.
- Ability to learn and assimilate information quickly.
